There is a family story of the history of this black Hills gold ring. The owner says it was given to his Greatgrandfather in 1892 at the Cheyenne Social Club. The man was one of the hired men recruited from Texas to ride into Johnson County with the Invaders. The man passed away shortly after returning to Texas and the ring has remained in the family. The present owner and his family attended the Wyoming State Historical Trek in 1992, which visited the sites of the 1892 Johnson County Cattle War.
